23rd oct food project

This week I have had more inspiration and have come up with a lot of ideas towards my project. In my spider diagram I looked into a variety of things including obesity, aphrodisiacs, nutrients, science and structure, nutrients, disintegration and decay, food and their associations with holiday seasons, pop art (involving the Campbell’s soup image), the increase/decrease of something (eating/preparing), eating disorders, where you can buy food, and programmes on television involving food.
From these ideas I began looking into obesity, and the diseases that it causes. From this is then starting researching Gunther Von Hagens who i remembered had done an episode on his programme on an obese man where he cut him down the centre of his body so that people were able to see the effects that fat has on the body. you could see how clogged up his arteries were and how bad too much fat really is for the body and I found this interesting, and so then I looked further into his work and I realised how interested I am in the way the body works and all of the structures that are in place to keep the body together. This has given me the idea of looking into anatomy and perhaps including this in my final piece.
I then began looking at the book 'Anatomy For The Artist' and saw that Leonardo Divinci did a lot of drawings and research into anatomy. This inspired me to do more.
Once I had looked into this I thought it would be a good idea to research more into the other topics to give me more ideas and so I started looking into aphrodisiacs in food and which foods that are aphrodisiacs but I didn’t find this interesting enough to inspire me any further although i could perhaps so something on how food effects the brain and how it can even treat illnesses, aches, mental issues and diseases.
I then briefly looked into decay, eating disorders and what types there are as well as the different artists that use food in their art work. this was an interesting thing to look into because of the work of Andy Warhol, I love his work so it was fun researching him. not only Andy Warhol but also Banksy, as he did a Mickey take version of the Campbell's soup can whilst mimicking the image but with a Tesco value soup can instead of Campbell's soup.
this week I also took my work into the kitchen with me and into my everyday life. this was quite fun to do. I had prepared a meal for myself and once I had sat down to eat it I took photographs of the food after every mouthful that I took until the meal was finished, the final outcome looked really good because the bizarre look of the food disintegrating into nothing which looked/seemed like it was by itself. one I had eaten the meal I put my camera on to the athlete setting and got my friend to take loads of photographs of me licking the plate after. it has an amusing quality to it.

This week I also decided to experiment in drawings of anatomy. I Drew 3 images, one of a man simply as muscle, no skin, I then also drew a skeleton with only muscles across the pecks and then I also drew a mans head, again just muscle. I was impressed with my work and my drawing skills considering they should be pretty dusty at the moment. I know I will be able to become better in time though (hopefully) I don’t know what I am going to use these for yet, maybe nothing but I think that it will help me come up with ideas. It has definitely pushed me more onto wanting to link my project with anatomy. I think I may do it on how food affects the body.

Week 2 food project 16th october

This week my course recieved a lecture from a person who had previously done the course and had then gone onto doing a masters degree at the royal college of art. He showed us his work and then we later went to an art gallery and saw some of his work as well as other peoples. it was a good exhibition, but im not a huge fan of the simplistic ideas involved in the mans work, I found the ideas behind it and the unlying meanings uninteresting and i felt the images were not powerful enough to grasp someones attention.
We were then given a project to do which is to be handed in on the 23rd of november. the project is to be based upon the word food. Food can be a very broad topic as it links to so many different things in life such as even war, disease, money etc and so I then decided to create a mind map to spread my ideas onto, therefore laying all of my ideas onto a piece of paper which makes them easier to look at and go into thus developing more ideas. when doing the mind map it was the word obesity that grabbed my attention the most as this could be a really interesting topic to go into. it could be involving the way a person/people feel about the topic, or being obese themselves, or it could be the effects obesity has, healthwise or society wise.

interactive arts edward scissorhands piece

week 1
This week I was set into a group of 6 people and we were told about sweded movies which you can find on youtube. Each group were then given a film title which they were then supposed to go off and in the next 2 days create a movie based upon the sweded type.
My group was given Edward Scissorhands as a film, this was exciting for our group because it is a fun, entertaining film with quite alot of funny, action filled scenes in it.
We decided that because of the short space of time that was alocated to us it would be quicker and more resourceful if done through puppetry, the comedy factor and and entertainment of the film would also be far better done this way as the film is not very serious.
The idea of a sweded film is for it to not last very long. It is like a shortened version, as if like an advert for a film, and so this is what we did.
Our group picked out the most important or most classic scenes from the film and acted these out with our hand made puppets. the scenes that we picked out were where the Avon lady goes to Edward's house trying to sell him Avon and discovers him there and then through sorrow takes him back to her house. The next scene is where he cuts the Avon lady's hair and then starts cutting the women from the neibourhood's hair as well. It is there where he discovers the Avon lady's daughter and falls in love with her. Folowing are the funny scenes where Edward sits on a water bed and accidently pops it with his big scissors, and then there is the scenes where edward is cutting the hedges in the gardens for the neibourhood and then finally is the scene where the Avon lady's daughters boyfriend and Edward are fighting and Edward kills him. And so then the Avon lady's daughter walks outside to the neibourhood to tell the village mob against Edward that both of them killed each other so that they would leave Edward alone and that is the end of the story.
All of these scenes together made a good depiction of how the film actually goes. we had fun with it and the audience enjoyed watching it. it was a fun project to do and it also helped the people within the group to get along better
